Seeking new friends -- male/female
Hi there. I am looking for some new friends so I decided to take a shot at looking for them here.
Like many other people, I have lived in the Washington, D. C. area for many years now and have seen people come and go. Most of my friends have left the area. Hence the need to make some new ones.
I am a 62-year-old single, white, female. I am searching for “Mr. Right” at the moment too, but decided that having some new friends around would be great as well.
Quite frankly, since I am looking for new people with whom to be just PLATONIC friends, I don’t care whether they are male or female. I also don’t care whether or not potential new friends are close to my age. (For example, even though neither of them are in the D. C. area any longer, I have one friend who’s in his 30's and another who’s in his 80's.) As I said, I’m looking for simply PLATONIC friends here.
Among the things that I enjoy doing are: taking long walks, going to craft shows (which I absolutely LOVE doing!), playing miniature golf, participating in water activities like swimming and boating (in the summer when it’s warmer), dining out, and going to movies, concerts, and street festivals. I need to be careful about spending money at the moment, so going to inexpensive restaurants, going to FREE concerts, and renting movies to view at home works for me too. One other thing that I absolutely LOVE doing is playing a game called Rummikub (pronounced “rummy cube”). (It’s also sometimes called “The Rummy Game” depending on where you buy it.) It’s like playing Gin Rummy only with domino size and shape game pieces instead of cards.
I spend most (but not ALL) of my weekends with one particular friend. I am looking for new people to spend time with on the weekends that I am not with him. I am also looking for occasional weeknight get-togethers (for dinners, movies, etc.).
Since I have no family around here and, as I stated earlier, most of my friends have left the area, I’d also love to find people who might be interested in spending holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas together, for those of you who, like me, want to be with friends on those days.
A little about me: I’m someone who believes in traditional family values. Politically I’m a liberal democrat (doesn’t mean that you have to be), and feel the most comfortable around people who have a fairly conservative appearance. (For example, I don’t care for long hair, tattoos, or earrings on guys.) I am also a VERY avid animal lover and am someone who struggles greatly with my weight (so if you want to do some exercise together [like walking], that would be fine).
I like people that have a good sense of humor (something that I consider to be EXTREMELY important), and since I am VERY anti-drug (after all, isn’t life itself enough of a trip?!), I seek people as friends who neither smoke nor use drugs, and if they DO drink alcohol, do so in moderation only.
If we share similar interests and/or values and you think that we might have the basis for establishing a new friendship, I’d love to hear from you.
If I could have a dinner party and invite any four people, dead or alive, the guest list would be: John Denver, Oprah Winfrey, Princess Diana, and Billy Crystal.
My radio dial is usually tuned to: either WASH (97.1), an equivalent type of "light rock" station in Baltimore (WLIF), or WMAL for news.
If I could change one thing about DC, it would be: The GOD awful traffic situation (especially aggressive drivers and MOST especially drivers who TAILGATE others)!!!
One thing people are surprised to find out about me is: that I have done volunteer work in the past and would consider doing it again.
The first thing I look at in City Paper is: both what concerts will be taking place and the "Whatnot" section to see if there will be any fun activities going on for the weekend.
The last concert I went to was: very possibly either at a church or hearing one of our wonderful military groups perform.
My favorite place to relax and be myself is: at home.
What kind of music makes you cringe? RAP!!!!!! I don't REALLY consider it to be music. To me it's just "in your face" NOISE!!
How have you been dealing with the high price of gas in the District? By cutting back somewhat on going to places that maybe, if the gas were not so expensive, I would go to.
The best thing about Washington is: the cherry blossoms in the springtime and the various activities that go on all year long.
I wouldn't sell my pets for a billion dollars.
The quickest way to my heart is to be a wonderful person The quickest way to my bed is being in an established, caring relationship with someone and in the morning, I like my eggs cooked fried, sunny-side up.
The best part of Halloween is actually two things: both seeing the kids come by in their costumes and, of course, THE CANDY!!
It's Sunday morning at 10 a.m. If I'm not sleeping, I'm either on my computer or getting ready for the day.
I consider myself an open-minded person, but my deal breakers are doing drugs and dishonesty.
My ideal mate has the brain of someone very intelligent and the body of a normally proportioned person.
If I was sure that I could not fail, I would try a sales job.
My favorite political news source is the TV news on the major networks.
When a friend brings up politics, I usually discuss it with him or her.
Two things I can't live without are animals (my pets) and my jewelry.
If I could say "You're Fired" to someone in the Bush Administration, it would be George himself!!!
If I found a million dollars on the side of the road I would I guess be both very rich and very happy.
The last time I made an ass out of myself I was undoubtedly very embarrassed about it.
My guiltiest pleasure is eating foods that we all know we shouldn't.
A perfect first date should end with a hug and a nice kiss.
The fact that there are sometimes fun activities to do is what I love about DC, and THE TRAFFIC!!! is what I hate about DC.
When war protests come to town I may be aware of them, but, as a general rule, don't do anything about them.
My skills in the kitchen are not great.
At concerts, you will usually find me just listening (and hopefully enjoying what I'm hearing).
My beverage of choice is usually either diet soda or coffee or tea served with ice.
When I try to understand how to use computers I feel like a fish out of water.
My favorite online addiction is well, I'm not sure that I would say "addiction" per se, but some sites that I visit and use are google (A LOT!!), craigslist, rotten tomatoes, and dead or alive info.
If you like me, you'd better like both animals (dogs and cats) and sharing good times together.
I do not stay in touch with most of my ex's.
